10+ hours is a long drive to me :: 18 hours in one day
More than 7 hours, I start thinking about the time of day I'll be doing the drive. Typically if the drive is longer than 10 hours I plan on leaving prior to sunrise. I like starting at midnight to 3am...this gets me to a point in the drive at 6am (sunrise) when my body needs a change of pace. The sunrise gives me that change. Also, the traffic considerations are important... I like leaving at 2am from Maine. I can miss most traffic all the way to North Carolina this way.

I drove 2700 miles in 3 days when I picked up our TTR in Dallas, TX.
When I have a long drive like that I get on the road before 5am and enjoy the sunrise. Then I get off the road at 6pm to rest and have a nice dinner and go to bed early to begin the next day just as early.

anything over 8-10 hours is long distance.
Longest solo drive was 15 hours, took me 15 hours.
Went from Long Island to Highlands, NC. On my trip home I left too late in the day to make it back in one day though.
I have driven to Phoenix in less than 36 hours, but did it with my Dad.

6+ is long :: Panama City, FL to Durham, NC in one day
Mapquest says its 672 miles; I've have no memory how many hours it was...more than 10 though.
Runner up is Toronto to Washington, DC. Did that one in about 9 hours.
