Are the problems as prevalent as some say?
I've heard about a lot of problems with the TT. I think its a beautiful car and would love to try to pick up a used model, but I don't want to walk into a bunch of trouble. Are the problems with things like the electrical system as prevalent as they seem? What about dealer service? I have heard about a lot of problems from a particular website, but also noticed some complaints on this board as well.
Are the problems specific to cars built earlier? If so, how can you tell when a car was built? Is it in the VIN? Thanks for the help!!

The key to your question is "some"....
There are a few minor issues that seem to pop up w/ some frequency but none of them are the kind of thing that should steer you away. I have had mine for almost 20K miles with only very minor quirks.
Dealer service is another issue. Unfortunately, some dealers aren't very good but there are some great ones out there.
The bottom line has to be the car itself. If you love the design, you'll love it in motion!

I wouldn't buy anything but a mid 2001 year build TT - anything earlier and it's anyone's guess how
many problems you may have. I have a 2000 TTq with a 12/99 build date. I attribute ALOT of my problems to that. Aside from that Audi is a horrible company to deal with.

due to the Mark 1 being a deathtrap their was a retrofit with
both esp( electronic stability program) and a rear spoiler....But from what I gather the MArk 1 outhandles the MArk 2 (ive got a mark2)I personally think that esp is sh@t, but its all in what you want. I would avoid getting an early fwd 180 as they seem to have tranny problems..

Tranny problems, electronic problems...what else???
Its sounding like I am now out of the market for a used TT. Unfortunately, my budget was going to restrict me to an early model vehicle. I have around $21K to spend and was hoping I might luck into something. Now I'm not so sure I want to.

Well as a long time VW/Audi owner - they tend to have alot of problems with early build cars - my
GTI was a 12/99 build as well and VW bought it back due to all the problems. It seems to take them about 1.5 years to sort out all the issues. As far as my comment about the Audi as a company is concerned - i'm very upset with how they are treating me and the issues i'm having with my TT. The bad thing is that i'm not the only one on this forum that feels that way.
