How do I know if they overfilled my crankcase?
I got my oil changed by the dealer last week, and
I checked the level this morning and the oil line
was WAY above the hashed markings on the
dipstick. Is this bad? I remember Hipstter had the
same thing happen last week, I think at the same
dealer.

I had that happen once... now I check before leaving the dealer. What you may not know...
is that the dealer techs (the guys who supposedly know what they're doing) don't perform the oil changes (not at my dealer anyway.) That means that some dealers will have an oil change guy do the messy work. The same guy that does oil changes on Lincoln Town Cars and Kia Sephias changes my oil. Oh goodie.
So even a "good" dealer with competent techs my still have a trunkmonkey changing your oil. Be safe, only give them 4.8 quarts of oil to work with, ask for a rag, and double check before driving home. It also helps to mention it to the service writer and the tech, so that it has been clearly stated. My tech now tells the monkey directly not to overfill.
