12 Hours to 40: 2 best decisions I made this past year........
and...
2. Attending "Fallingwater". All joking aside, I was on the fence about going simply b/c I had never met any of the Forum members in person and had never attended any smaller TT events. Not being the most mechanically inclined gearhead around, I wasn't terribly interested in the purely "mod related" issues either.
My decision to go was based entirely on the humor and friendly interaction between the forum members who were going to attend. When it came down to it, I just couldn't wait to meet this "Bracketracer" - I couldn't figure out why b/c it appeared as though we had absolutely nothing in common - but I knew I wanted to meet him. Then there was that DennyTT... she seemed too funny to be real (and this was before I knew anything about her statuary fetish).
Of course, I can't list all of the people here, but I was looking forward to meeting everyone and I couldn't have been more thrilled to actually do it! From the moment we drove into the HI parking lot, I knew it was going to be an outstanding weekend!! Just seeing all of those TTs in the lot was worth the drive. From there on.... well, it kept getting better and it's still getting better today.
Having left law enforcement and the commoraderie of having a shared purpose just a few months before FW, it was great to meet a group of people who had similar tastes (even if a "few" seemed to know a little something about what made the cars actually go). Finding a group of new friends at any age much past college isn't an easy thing to do but the FW event provided that for many of us.
FW lead to other TT events and even more new friends - it even lead to my own Bilsteins (AAACK!). Without question, TT East will blow FW away in every category except friendship.
If anyone reading this is thinking "might be fun but I don't know any of these people", here's the deal: you want to know these people - come out - you will be stunned at how much fun you will have.
Hope to see you there!!!
BTW, did the trial get postponed that was attempting to prohibit your attendance? I might have missed the post, but last I saw you were being asked to attend court instead.
