Default volk gtp on the tt?

[ posted this over on the wheel and tire forum too -- sorry for the cross-post, but i needed opinions from tt-centric folks too :-) ]

i'm looking into rims for my tt, and i'm thinking about volk gtp's. does anyone have any experience with these rims? are they forged like the [tl]e-37's? finally, any opinions on how they might look in 18" on a tt coupe? i'd like to do them staggered with ~18x8 (225/40/18) front and ~18x9.5 (255/35/18) rear.

all thoughts welcome.

Looks like a wheel for a JGTC car.. probably expensive and light. I'm not sure about using wider rims in the back as it will probably increase understeer with wider rear tires (which can get even worse upon lowering the car without correcting the toe and camber), which is too bad because those rims look better with lots of lip.

you don't want to damage your quattro system!!
better to keep all wheels the same size..........

Default Ignore that..you wont damage the Haldex with different widths..only different diameters...

Ask me how I know ;-)

so by your jgtc comment, are you implying you think they'd look out of place on a tt?

regarding the wider rims: i don't understand -- are you suggesting that porsche twin turbos suffer from understeer? after all, they're all wheel drive and have staggered rim widths. as, such i have a tough time understanding your argument.

Default sweet setup!

what are you running in terms of widths and offsets for your tires and wheels?

thanks!

Default Just what you want...except my rear rims are 10"...same tire sizes though

and they are within 3% so it wont confuse or bind up the haldex.

Offset it 30 up front and 20 at the rear,
Kumho 712 all round 225x40x18 and 255x35x18 rear.

Hope his helps,

Marcus

Default you forgot that they are mid-engine and rear drive biased...

no to mention the fact that they do have understeer traits entering a corner but that is solved by adding throttle...and there is a lot more to add than you can in the TT.

Default fair point ...

though it seems like there are enough variables in the equation that i'm not convinced i'll run into problems.

ps. one aspect of this equation that does make sense to me is sidewall flex -- for instance,
if one ran a staggered tire setup (e.g., 225/40 front 255/35 rear) on the same width wheel, i can imagine having problems due to the varience in sidewall flex (since the 255 is gonna be stretched in comparison to the 225). hence why i want to vary the rim width as well as the tire width.

Default Re: fair point ...

Porsche's need wide rims in the back because they're rear engined/rear biased.. opposite the tt.

As far as sidewall flex, i think the difference in height is neglible. As far as width.. its not that wider in back will cause catastrophic problems (understeer being safer), just that ideally i'd think you want to make the car as balanced as possible, which means not adding understeer. To me the TT is more like a WRC rally car (same size F&R) than a Porsche cup car with staggered wheel sizing.

As far as that rim on the tt.. IMO, it would look good in 9-10 in. widths with 255-275 tires and if the car was heavily modified.. to match the rims race looks.
