Forge DV revisited ...
I purchased one of the first forge DV's for my 225 (2000 Raven coupe, MTM chip, debadged, black front rings - sorry, no sig..) and installed it right off the bat, fearing diaphragm ingestion - very ugly, as I'm sure you can imagine ...
As I had driven on nothing but the forge, I had no point of comparison as to the performance of the valve, but with all the recent discussion lately, I began to wonder, so I e-mailed forge, and they sent me the replacement aluminium piston, new o-rings and spring free of charge, and quickly too.
It just so happens that I arrive home from a two hour drive on the freeway to find the little forge box sitting on my doorstep, so I naturally break out the screwdriver and pull the DV out of my still hot engine ...
What I found was that the nylon piston had seized completely in the closed position, such that no amount of vacum was ever going to open the valve. I let the disassembled valve cool down on my desk to room temperature, and the piston never moved - I had to pull and twist it quite a bit to get it out.
The new piston is clearly working much better - I can feel the DV opening on throttle off, keeping the turbo spinning, and thus providing much smoother hard acceleration - it really is night and day. It got me thinking about what would happen if the valve had seized in an open position - that would really kill your performance !
Anyway, big thanks and kudos to forge.
