Default anyone else unhappy with the speed of their TT?

I know that the 180TTR is the slowest of the bunch, but it seems to me that speed and performance was never a concern for Audi when building this car. I hate comparing the TT to other cars because the TT is a work of art and originally that is why I bought it, but is it too much to ask for to get more than a little performance out of the thing? Yes, I know I could get a new turbo kit or a chip, but will it really help?

If I'm going to compare I should at least compare similar cars, consider this: The new Beetle Turbo S with the 1.8T at 180hp was rated by Car and Driver at 6.5 (0-60) and low 15 (1/4), compare to the TT180 coupe 6.9 (0-60) and 15.6 (1/4). Nothing says sports car like getting burned by a hippy in a Beetle. : )

Oh well, I'm coming up on the one year mark with my TT and I'm really not enjoying it a much as I hoped I would. I think Audi could have a real sports car on their hands if they would crank up the performance. Honestly, who here wouldn't be willing to pay more for one of the fastest cars that is also unquestionably one of the best looking cars around?

Just a thought, thanks for listening...

John.

Default Yea, the last Highway Patrol guy that stopped me...

No ticket, but I blasted up a short entrance ramp to a local freeway here a few weeks ago.

Quick turn to the left, followed by a quick jab to the right, then onto the freeway, all up an incline.
I didn't see the 'bull' till I was doing 'bout 85. He was behind me, and had seen most of what I did coming onto the ramp.
He pulled me over, and wanted to talk about the car!
He knew all about it, how fast it was, how it handled. Gave me a stern warning, said he would have written it up as "reckless driving".

Dodged a big one there.

Default think thats what a lot did by buying the 225...but you know..you'll always want more power...

cars like the Beetle S were released years after the 180TT, so you gotta expect some evolution in the product lines, whether its a vw or Audi product.

But like i said...even the 225 can get a tad boring for some...ive had the urge to chip for the last few months...but havent really done it. Its odd because Im coming from a 350hp s4 with close to 390#of torque...yet im pretty happy with the 225TT.

Default Agreed, the 180 needs some fine tuning. It is why most seem to mod the crap out of them. it will..

even get worse with the tiptronic 180 next year. Hopefully its sales will allow them to produce the true "S" TT keeping the 180 for entry level, 225 for street fun and the "S" for winning pink slips. We have seen in the forum that the 1.8T can be done and done well, it is just Audi's turn now.

Default Did you drive the car before you bought it!?!

...and at $42K, if they'd made it any more expensive I probably would have went with a Boxster S.
