Default Front Grill Pieces

I have been told by an Audi Tech that the front lower grills have a plastic cap under them that can be removed to increse airflow over the intercoolers... Have any of you heard this? If so how do I remove those caps?! Can i do it without taking the bumber off?!

Default On the 225, it is one piece, no cap.

I removed mine when installing the front-mount intercooler and ABT front-end. The factory pieces seem very functional as it comes from the factory. The ducting for the twin intercoolers extends into the center grill. I doubt that there would be any benefit from modifying the factory lower grils.

Default The caps come out easily, you need to pull out the lower

grills and then you will see how the *caps* attach to the back of them

Default OKOKOKOKOK hold on!!!!

I looked at the picture that was referanced to my issue. It looked as if the front valance was ruined when you took off the grill. This is not somthing that I really want to do to my ALMS! Is there a way to do it WITHOUT destroying the nose?! And does it really...REALLY..... help?!

Default Are you refering to Raven's pic? As far as my 225, the grills simply snap off

they take a matter of seconds to remove them from the lower part of the bumper. I have done similar modifications to my previous A4 (single intercooler) by purchasing the ABT duct, that is supposed to make a difference by better directing the air flow (compared to factory) but I noticed nothing, and I felt I wasted both my money and my time.

Default After studying this a bit, I'm sure the Audi engineers....>>

Had a reason for the ducting the IC's the way they did. The way the air is gathered and ducted is important. It's got to do with flow and pressure. If you remove these you change the design parameters and although it may seem logical, it may make the flow worse. Here's a good article on locating high pressure points on the nose of the car for plumbing in CAI's. Some good info here. I'd leave well enough alone unless you want to rip the IC's out and go with a front mount like I did. (yank those silly Aliens out though as they seem to be an obstruction)

Autospeed tech article on locating high pressure points

Default Ding ding ding, we have a winna! Let's not forget the Audi engineers design for ALL driving scenario

s. I haven't studied this issue closely enough to make any valid points, however, I would think if you were to only track your car for instants, you may well benefit from modifying the ducting. My .02
