Default So I ran with a stage II GTI on sat. <more>

Late at night, on my way home.... He pulled up to me and started revving [ I new this because I heard his DV valve, it was loud for a DV. ].... I accepted the offer and we got on it at about 70 mph. I pulled from him up to about 100 mph then, to my shock, he started to pull on me. Not much but he was defiantly pulling on me. We kept it up to about 130 mph and then I backed off. We actually did this about three times [ long drive home ] with the same outcome... We both exited at the same place and went to an apartment complex to chat. Here is a list of his mods:

-> DV
-> Cat back exhaust.
-> GIAC stage II chip [ 220hp ]
-> new turbo intake/inlet [?]
-> Cold air intake [ ran down to his fender ]
-> Larger Down pipe and High flow cat.

So this brings me to my comments and questions. I have a Chipped 225TTQc with a drop in K&N air filter and a Bailey DV valve. Should he have been pulling on me? I figure we are probably close to the same hp after our mods [ ~250 for me and ~240 for him ], and a GTI is about 340 lbs lighter so I guess it makes since that he is faster *BUT* I thought since I have the larger turbo [ K04 ] and a 6th gear, I would walk him at the higher speeds. So is it my driving? I have also noticed that my car hits it's rev limiter before the redline... Is that normal? I still have the stock exhaust, if I had a cat back system [ APR ] do you think I would have taken him? I know these are hard questions to answer with out being there and it's not an exact science but, any comments or answers would be great.

Needless to say, I was humbled.

Thanx!

Default What chip do you have?

And when you say you hit the "rev-limiter", do you really feel it "hit" or do you just stop pulling and assume you hit it?

Default His weight advantage is what killed you - and if it was a 2001 GTI

with an AWW engine - he's putting out about 215hp at the wheels depending on what size his turboback exhaust is and the other mods etc.

Default APR Chip : Yes i feel it hit the rev-limiter.

I have noticed it before I chipped it and after I chipped it.

Default I think with the new exhaust, you'd feel more power from the chip

Am I right?
It's like they work hand in hand...

Default out of curiosity, did you have the pedal completely floored, or...>>>

...not quite floored? I've noticed an interesting phenomenon where the car seems to have more power and pull harder with the pedal not quite floored. It's particularly noticeable at higher speeds in top gear. For example, I can floor it in 6th at about 70 mph and when I hit 90 mph or so, back off on the throttle slightly, and the car seems to accelerate faster! Takes some getting used to, particularly since the instinct is to really floor it when you need it.

I've seen a couple others make this point...something about one of the hoses collapsing slightly under vacuum?

Default True...

Default According to some people 340 lbs isn't enough to make a difference..

its a little more then 3/tenths of a second on the quarter mile.. Ive seen a jetta with a chip, downpipe, exhaust, 18" rims, intake, and DV run a 14.23.. I think the fastest run by a chipped TT was a 14.0.. Yes, 350lbs will make a difference.. Big difference.. imo, 3 tenths of a second is huge in the 1.4mile..

Default When were you shifting? I don't know what chipped car does but a stock 225

holds boost until ~6200rpms, then it starts to drop hard, so I shift right before that.. I usually watch my boost gauge when Im racing to see what my boost is doing..
