I also, don't have the room to store it in the summer, etc.

The disadvantages are you have to find someplace to store the hardtop when it is not on the car. It takes up a lot of space. Yeah, I came up with a variety of schemes. The easiest was to stand it on its end against the wall but it takes up a lot of wall space. Then you have to cover it inside and out so that it won't get dusty/dirty. Also, the install/removal is a 2 person job. Not hard. but cumbersome. So you can't just decide to take it off as you drive along on those glorious nice winter days that we have many of here. Finally, you can have some problems with the soft top after removing the hard top as the car gets older (5+ years). The soft top just is not as pliable and the long time folded seems to stress some seams if the top is not folded perfectly.
Personally, I would never pay extra for a hard top because the marginal benefits are just not worth the cost and inconvenience unless you live in the North where you have a harsher winter season with rare nice days. I did use it when it came as standard equipment.
