Default well the only difference between Joe's car and Gary's is....

Joe has the custom manifold and an APR 90 octane chip. Gary has racing cats, GIAC-X chip with 93 octane program and FMIC program.

They run dead even. I have to think the manifold is what keeps him up there. You had mentioned the kick you got from 90 to 93 octane programs. You tell me was that a big difference? BTW the cost is not that bad through Joe ;-)

Default If it were me - i'd get an AEB head off an early A4/Passat and have my manifold

port matched to that head - the difference in port size if significant.

Default What else would be effected with a top end mod like that?

I guess the new head would need a valve job and seats maybe. Plus perhaps machining on it as well?

Default Not really sure - I guess it would be dependent on the head itself - if it's in good shape

should be a direct bolt on with possibly a swapping of cams. Of course if you Variable Cam Timing - as some of the newer cars do - you'd be out of luck.

These guys sell the various different stages for the 1.8T head. They use the Euro head (same as AEB).

http://www.eurospecsport.com/20vhead.htm</a

Default This is a mod I have never seen posted, has anyone done this yet?

BTW thanks for the link. This maybe the way to go for those near the end of warranty. However my car is a 2002 ;-) not sure that I could justify that dramatic a move right away. :-) But what a great stage 3+ 225 mod that would be! ;-)

Default I have an AEB head sitting right next to my TT - in our A4 Avant!!!! Now

I just need to convince my wife I can swap them no problem :-)

Seriously though - the intake itself will help somewhat but if you're going that far - this would yield much more gains - especially up top. If you could get the programming down, I would assume that 350 whp with pump gas on a Stage III+ 225 would be easily attained.
