Stay far away from the Mall ... it's a madhouse that weekend.

Watching the fireworks from Iwo Jima typically is much less of a nightmare. Best thing to do is find someone with a rooftop deck that can see the fireworks...sorry, I don't know anyone who does...

MTT and I are thinking of a 4th of July cookout / TT GTG ...

You can come visit us in Reston if you'd like. No way are we going anywhere near DC though.

Well, I pretty much assumed that, but we've decided to go anyway. What time should you go to the mall to claim a spot for the fireworks? What about the Iwo Jima memorial?

Thank you for the generous invititation, but we will not have a rental car while there.

I have yet to be able to meet anyone on the forum, and I have been a member since around May 1999!
Shameful.

Can't offer any real exact advice...

I haven't been either place on the 4th in years. But you used to have to get either place before noon to get a good viewing spot.
