Default I need some Asheville advice/tips/pointers...

...and before anyone else says it...yeah, i know..."welcome to three months ago" :P

I had some prior obligations and couldn't make it down to TT-East this past May. However, my wife & I have been meaning to visit there for some time now.

I'm trying to plan a roadtrip down there (starting in Boston) for sometime in September, and had several questions for those of you from the northeast who went down there.

1) what's the best/quickest route to get down there?

2) hotel recommendations? i'm looking for something centrally located, not too expensive, but not too cheap either. i think i remember someone posting something about one of the hotels having a tiki bar...any idea which one this was?

3) site-seeing recommendations?

4) decent restaurants/bars/clubs? what's the nightlife like down there?

any input would be greatly appreciated.

Default Didn't see much of the town...My route from Boston would've been:

I stopped in TN on the way down...though I did travel this route back to Boston.

I don't take the GW bridge...I go over the Tappan Zee and run down to the Parkway.

I did it in 13 hours...Pretty straight forward

I have my Garmin Map at home...I can post that later...if your are interested.

Most of the trip is route I-81 (500 miles)<ul><li><a href="http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&amp;do=nw&amp;ct=NA&amp;1y=US&amp;1a =&amp;1p=&amp;1c=Cambridge&amp;1s=MA&amp;1z=02142& amp;2y=US&amp;2a=&amp;2p=&amp;2c=Asheville&amp;2s= NC&amp;2z=&amp;lr=2&amp;x=102&amp;y=7">Route to

Default The only hotel advice I can give you is...

DON'T STAY AT THE BEST WESTERN. Yes, that was in caps on purpose.

Default Here's some pictures from when I stayed there.

The whole place smelled funny, the parking lot was a nightmare, and it was only $10/night less than the Holiday Inn where everyone else stayed. There's a night club kinda thing downstairs, so after about 9pm, the parking lot fills up and people just park wherever they feel like, so navigating through it is pretty difficult.

I can't really think of anything good about the place except that there was a bed in my room ,and it was comfortable.<ul><li><a href="http://laer.nu/tt/thumbs.php?search=western&amp;directory=tteast%2F2 002-05-05%2F">Best Western pictures</a></li></ul>
