Behold the only XJ13 extant. Built as a potential Le Mans contender, this mid-engine 5-liter 502-hp V-12 test vehicle was put on the back burner to free up resources to develop what became the XJ6 sedan. By the time it was completed it was obsolete, due to rules changes. The beautiful aerodynamic styling is the work of Malcolm Sayer, who also penned the C- and D-types. After four years under a cover in the factory, the XJ13 was taken out to MIRA's test track for some filming, when a wheel collapsed causing a horrific crash, which driver Norman Dewis survived after remembering to shut off the ignition mid-crash and slipping under the dash for safety.
