Default Now having to make 4 or 5 attempts to start TT every time. Comments?

About 3 months after putting in my 3rd cluster in 16,000 miles, I'm experiencing the (in)famous starting issue. Foot on clutch to activate "nanny" interlock, turn the key, and hey-ho, nothing. Try again, nothing. Normally get it on 4th or 5th try.

Seems to be getting worse. Is this another bad cluster, or a dodgy starter solenoid, or something more sinister? Does it with both keys.

I don't really want to be driving a Neon for 6 weeks while the kind folks at the dealer scratch their heads, come up with the wrong solution, order the parts, wait for them, lose them, order some more, find they were the wrong ones anyway, order the right ones, put them in, order the parts they forgot to order the first time etc....

So any clued-up responses are appreciated. Prolly leaves out most of you, since it's a Friday beer-night...

Turn key to on position, wait several seconds until display/gauges come to life, turn key fully. Hopefully, it will now start just fine.

Default Thanks. Tried that, and most variants. No difference.

Turning key to detent #1, wait till dash lights up, fuel pump on, etc., then try to fire her up, no nuffin. Same as going straight to start without waiting. Curious....

Default check your battery terminals for corrosion.

baking soda and a toothbrush removes it, I 'll bet that's your problem.

Default Sorry to say but IMO it is the Cluster again...

I have the exact same problem even after the dealer replaced the cluster. The famous Immobilizer problem I think... Mine does it rarely though but needs 4 or 5 attempts when it does it to start Asked the dealer and said that Audi has a major problem with the clusters on the TT...

PS. Try to notice when the engine shuts on the first attempt if the immobilizer logo flashes...

Big sigh, and I think you might be right. Battery terminals are 100% OK....

Default Starting to get very worried

I've only put down my deposit so far - should I back out? Seems that people are having an awful lot of issues with cars that are less than 4 years old.

I would think that Audi - VW's premier marque would have a bit more reliability than this......

Default I think your interpretation of an aweful lot is a bit off

I mean you consider that a handful of the hundreds, maybe thousands, of people here have problems. That's not much. Then consider that the usership here represents VERY FEW of the actually TT owners out there.

You'll find many many many more people that never have a problem than those that do.
