My T started overheating today??? 180Q with GIAC Chip
Another problem thats prob assosiated to this:
Also when starting the car, the temp signal on the computer goes on for about 3 min indicating that the car is not warmed up yet or overheating. Thats been going on for about a week or so, the only thing I did that could have caused this is I slightly turned the collant tank lid open, and some steam came out, and the collant started to boil/bubble....I quickly closed it, and read my manual which said that the TT uses a "sealed" cooling system, and coolant should only be added at the dealership (cause they use a special coolant)
Could I have caused serious damage to my car? Any ideas? I admit I know jack about my mechanics, but am trying to learn...so dont flame me..thanks in advance
Btw, Im running the GIAC chip, I dont think that would cause my car to overheat, cause I was reving high at all either.
Anyway, many TTs (esp. MY01 and MY02) seem to have an over-sensitive temp gauge. The most common thing that causes it is the coolant temp sender that goes bad. Since yours comes up with a temp warning signal on the DIS, I'm 99% sure that this sender or some other sensor causes the trouble.
JUst for the record, the temp gauge on mine climbs just before the red line (at 110*C), then drops back again everytime I sit in traffic or push the car hard (near top speed). Did it when standard, does it now that it's chipped. The dealer changed the whole instrument cluster and nothing happened. Then he changed the temp sender, didn't do it either. I learned to live with it. I also found out that the temp gauge seems to agree with the value displayed at cell #49 on the climatronic (and of course the coolant's temp shown at the VAG-COM). Others here have cured it by changing their temp sender though.
