Default Anything I should know before buying TT?

I have plans purchase a TT to within a 6 month time frame. My intention has always been to buy a car that I can have fun with, that looks good and that I can tune for a little extra bang for my buck. The TT looks like it could really be fun to tune and make into a fun hobby.

I'm decided on the 2001-2002 TT, 225HP, AWD, 6-Speed Roadster. Is there anything I need to look out for before I place any bids for this car? For instance, are some roadsters easier to tune than others because of any added options?

I plan to keep it fairly simple until the warranty expires. ECU, filter and exhaust is about as far as I'm going to go for the first year of having my new toy. I don't plan on racing Vin Diesel in a 1/4 mile anytime soon.

Thanks in advance.

Default There aren't any options that would limit modding...

but if you get a 180hp roadster you are limited to FWD only, the 225hp gets you quattro and also the better transmission. None of the other options affect modding.

Default Get a Roadster!

women love them

One advantage of the 180 Roadster is that they have a deeper trunk. I can fit alot more in mine than the 225's. Don't know if a set of golf clubs will fit in a 225 trunk.

I was doing more reading. What is this "immobilizer". Some threads say it will prevent swapping the ECU. I assume this has been worked out by now but just wanted some clarification.

Thanks! I cannot wait to get my own. This living in envy is for the birds.

Default There's two things you might have read about, the immobilizer and the chastity belt.

The chastity belt is new, I think maybe some of the late 2002s and now the 2003s have it. Basically it is a strap that runs around the box that holds your ECU and it is held in place with one-time-use rivets. So basically if you pull it off Audi will know.
The immobilizer is different, totally software. Basically your ECU has a code in it that other parts of the car have to match (like the instrument cluster). If the ECU doesn't match the car won't start (basically it is a security system to prevent someone stealing your car).
However, aftermarket tuners are very smart since they want you to buy their products and there are easy workarounds. For the immobilizer you'll need to send your ECU to the tuner and they'll get a duplicate image of your ECU software and then add their modified software to it and send it back. They typically do overnight shipping or if you have a local dealer you can just go to them.
There are work arounds for the chastity belt too, but if you're looking at an 01 or 02 that shouldn't be a problem for you.
