Diesel Geek Race short shifter installed and driven..
First thing, the instructions say that you don't have to remove the air box, but since its such a cramped area, I decided to remove it..
Not too bad, there were a few steps that were a pain in the ***, specifically removing the large chromed shifter bracket
The instructions say that it can be hard to pull off, and with mine, I found it near mpossible.. To make this step easier I wrapped a towel round the base of the bracket and pulled upward.. Three reasons I did this, first with the towel wrapped around the base of the bracket the uplifting force is distributed evenly (or close to evenly) under the bracket... The other reasons were because I didn't want to destroy my hands once the bracket finally came free, and because I had a very difficult time getting my left hand in the area (not enough room for both hands)..

Another step that I wanted to make sure went smoothly was the adjustment procedure.. When locking the tranny, you are suppose to push down on the bracket no more then 1/3".. Since I couldn't visually track 1/3" of movement.. I drew a line on the drivers side cable end and placed a ruler next to it.. With the ruler I was able to precisly measure 1/3"..

Feel
After an hour drive, the shifts feel great.. I haven't driven a car with DGs original shifter so I can't say if the Race SS has more of a mechanical feel to it but the race one definitely has more of a mechanical feel then the stock shifter.. The shifts are very VERY short, and the side to side play was also greatly decreased.. When I say side to side play Im talking about the amount of play in the shifter when in gear.. The other great thing about this shifter is how much it reduced the side to side throw from 2nd to 3rd.. The gear box feels really tight with this new shifter.. =)
For the money this was definitely one of the best mods I have done.. The feedback feels great.. My stock shifter had a notchy feeling in my first to second gear shifts, but with this one its gone.. It is possible that the stock shifter felt notchy in first and second because of a poor alignment job from the factory.. If your unhappy with the way your tranny feels, I highly recommend you purchase a diesel geek short shifter.. =) Im going to help aktif install his original SS next week so once thats done we can compare the two in feel..

If your not happy with the way your tranny feels.. Order a DG SS

And 1/3 inch measurement is just the point at which the tranny lock engages. Either way my adjustment just took one try.
Drop me an email sometime, we should all try to gtg, maybe discuss chips.. =)
