Default Buying '01 TTQR--what to look for?

Hi,

I'm going to look at a 2001 TTQR tomorrow. Is there anything I should specifically look at in the car before buying it? The car has about 50,000 miles on it and the owner has taken very good care of it. Also, does the 1.8T have a timing belt that needs replacement or a timing chain? What about shocks--are they worn out at 50,000 miles? I already know the car needs new tires, so I'll have to make the decision in the spring for what to wear (car has snows on it now).

Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated. I'm looking forward to being an Audi owner!

Default Oh yeah, a timing belt.

It would be good to get the whole history of work from whomever did it, and even better to find a mechanic you can trust to look it over for "invisible" damage and/or body work..

I love mine, but it is on cluster #4 and had 2 sets of fuel tank sensors...

Default Agree... Run a VIN# history if possible...

CarFax and through Dealer if possible (checks for routine maintencace, recalls, and any other reported services). According to Audi, timing belt is something like a 105,000 mile part, but expect to change it before that.

Cleveland... Great town!

If those are stock shocks (Monroes) they were worn out a long time ago...Bilsteins are great.

At 50K the suspension is dead, get a set of Koni sports with Eibach springs..

Default Shocks are shot @20K, some say 10K miles. Go with Bilstiens along with new tires in the spring...

look for/ask about Haldex Oil changes.
Should have had a brake fluid chg at 40K miles.
Timing belt (rubber), no more than 75K miles, please.
Check for any top wear, squeaks.
Check brake pads, front and rear
Ask about;
DV replaced?
MAF replaced?
Inst. cluster problems?

Bilsteins are great. I really like mine, with the OEM springs. BTW-got up to a whopping -5 today.

Default An idea? Before getting swept up in suspension and performance debates...

Total up ($$$) of any needed parts or immediate maintenance concerns (i.e. new shocks, tires, etc.)...add 20% and knock that off asking price of car. Then enjoy the Q in Cleveland's lake-effect snows.
