Yeah for normaly aspirated cars it's a good number but for forced induction it's not all that

Default Problem is turbocharger technology and engine management.....

has come a long way in terms of reliability and the auto industry is testing the waters of forced induction on every level.
F1 cars in the eighties were 1.5liter making 1400 hp.
I am noticing how superchargers /turbos are in so many cars on the street its only getting better!

Default S2000 comes close without the turbo.... but Mazda wins big

RX8 ~240/1.3 = 184 (NA)
Evo8 FQ330 330/2 = 165
F40 480/3 = 160
959 450/2.9 = 155
RS2 315/2.2 = 143
RS4 380/2.7 = 140
CC8S 655/4.7 = 139
996GT2 450/3.6 = 125
TT 225/1.8 = 125
S2000 240/2 = 120 (NA)
M12 GTOR3 = 350/3 = 117
360CS 420/3.6 = 117 (NA)
996TT 415/3.6 = 115
M3 CSL 355/3.2 = 110 (NA)
Enzo 650/6 = 108 (NA)
RS6 450/4.2 = 107
Carrera GT 604/5.7 = 106 (NA)
996GT3 380/3.6 = 105 (NA)
F1 627/6 = 104 (NA)

(NA) denotes normally aspirated, all others are turbocharged.

(edited: added the CC8S and F1)

Default S2000 is 109 hp/liter now...

And the RX8 is an unfair comparison since it uses a different type of engine. Neither of these engines have nearly as much torque as they do power, though.

Default How is a rotary unfair? You know what the 1.8 would be without the t? Pretty sad.

240hp with only 1.3liter displacement is insanely efficient. I don't have numbers for production turbo RX7s but they have to be very high since it also used a 1.3liter engine. And yes, Honda has traded some extra displacement for some torque but that doesn't change the fact that the original production engine made 120hp/liter.
If you look at aftermarket stuff most of the forced induction engines get much much better hp/liter but all the numbers I listed were production specs.

Default It's unfair because the engines are completely different...

You can compare hp/liter between different rotary engines fairly. I don't really know how to explain it, but let's just say that a piston engine with 184 hp/liter would be a much more significant accomplishment.
