Default Questions about new TT

Hello all,
This weekend I picked up a new 2003 225hp TT Coupe. As I was taking delivery I noticed a scratch around the glove box lock and a gouge in the emergency brake cover. The dealer will swap glove boxes, and "sand out" the gouge on the brake handle.

Sanding the hand brake is unacceptable to me, but replacing it seems to require taking apart most of the interior. Is this assumption correct? I am thinking it is best left alone. Similiarily, what is your opinion on swapping glove boxes?

Thanks for your help. These are but two things that went wrong with the delivery, which has me left me disappointed and frustrated.

Just make sure everything is documented. Try to get everything replaced IMO.

Default I had to have my whole upper dash replaced because of a bubble

and when they did the job, they scrached the heck out of both "A" piller trims. They replaced both with new ones delivered from Germany. I had to wait for a while but when I complained to AoA, they rectified my displeasure with a months car payment, albeit, I had other problems too but I wanted to relay the interior area ones to you. Lesson learned: dealer now knows how to replace upper dash; remove both piller trim covers before removal. One last thing, if you haven't done so already, go through the whole car looking for irregularities, get it done all at once if you can convince them it was there before you took delivery and if it takes to long to replace, redo, or rectify, I'd call AoA for assistance.

Default I work at a dealership... (PLEASE READ, THIS WILL HELP YOU)

Untill you give them $ you can make them do almost anything (just try to be nice about it, please). Either have them repair the damage, replace the parts, or give you $ off the price. Problem is... "repairing" the interior of cars is a PAIN. I'd shoot for replacement. If they put a new one in, and you're not happy with it, and they give you crap about it... CALL AOA ON THEM! Audi/VW dealerships (I work at VW) are held to what is called CSI (Customer Service Initiative) ratings. If you tell them you'll slam them on their CSI if they don't do it right, trust me, they'll do it right. Same goes for the service departments. Someone from the manufacturer will probably call you in a few weeks and ask you some questions. That's the CSI. If you do everything you ask, and are nice, PLEASE GIVE THEM ALL 5's and yes's! It really hurts the salesman if you don't. But if they're jerks, by all means, slam them for it! Just let them know you know about the CSI and they'll bow to your every (reasonable) wish!

P.S. Just please don't abuse this system!

Default Thanks (MORE INFO, PLEASE READ)

Thanks for all your help. I purchased the car in Chicago which is about 2 hours away from where I live. Two Saturdays ago I looked over the car, agreed on a deal, and signed the papers. A week later, this Saturday, when I picked it up these problems appeared. The salesperson could not be more helpful and understanding, but while the sales manager appears to want to rectify the situation, it is on his terms only, ie. sand parts not replace.

I left out that I also had them add the 18 in. wheels which they got from another car on the lot. After looking at them Saturday, it appears that someone tried to remove the "center cap" with a screwdriver on all four wheels. Again, the manger wants to repair not replace.

What upsets me is that they readily admit they did this to a new car (documented), and while they are the ones responsible, I feel like I am the one paying for their mistakes. That is what angers me.

But I am pratical, and I worry that in replacing the interior parts more will be damaged. Can anyone post or email me any info on what is involved in replacing the glove box and hand brake. Also an approximate cost to the dealer for these parts and rims?

Your help is greatly appreciated. The more I drive the car, the more I grow to love it. I just wish the experience was not ruined by these issues.

Default They don't like replacing things cuz it's a LOT more expensive. Mention CSI (or AOA), they'll break.

but on the same token, if you got a killer deal on your car... just remember that they might not have that much room to work with you on these issues before they start loosing money (you'll know they're losing money on you when you meet hard resistance to doing anything else). At the same time, just remember, it might be worth the scratches to have saved a couple grand on the car in the first place.
