Default Update on crashed TT...

Well... my little "4-wheel drift" on the ice into a curb will cost 4K to fix (with the meter still running on the "final final" amount). The front driver's side wheel and all the linkages and suspension parts behind it are toasted The rear wheel is dented, but no suspension probs detected (so far). And no frame problems detected either (again, so far..) By the way as far as body damage, there was only some "minor" damage to the rocker panel near the front wheel well. But no biggie there. 95% suspension damage.

I was told that the wheels cost $600 ea.? I guess that's inc. the tires. Wow. Anyway, not a cheap car to fix.

Looking into my crystal ball I see an insurance hike in my future... :-(

Default that sucks, yeah when i got in an accident

I hit a curb in my A4, screwed up my struts, my wheels, the bumper on the side, cost me 3,000, sucks dude i hate how expensive it is to repair. I paid out of my pocket so i wouldnt get higher insurance. The worste part is i hit the curb at 20 mph, i was pissed.

Wow that sucks! Is your insurance gonna cover all this or do you have to pay?

If you have the stock wheels and they body shop orders the wheels through an Audi dealer I think they charges that much for the rim only. If not 600 it will be damn close to that.

Just skip that and by a set of aftermarket wheels a set you really like and if already on it get the matching suspension kit also! Just my two cents.

Default I was going no more than 20-25mph also...

Did you file a claim at all? I did, but I'm considering withdrawing it, and paying out of pocket. It'll be painful, but in the long run I know that if I let my Ins Co. pay, I'll pay it all back and much more in the long run.

Just don't know if it's possible to withdraw the claim at this point. Or even if I did, and pay it myself, if they'd raise my rates anyway since they know about the accident.

Default stock wheels

I'm currently financed under a "balloon payment" type deal for 4 years. This month makes 3 years, so next year I'll probably just let them buy it back from me. I'm afraid to put non-stock on the car at this point.

Yeah, I'll probably let my ins co. pay, but if possible I may pay it myself to save myself the bigger payment in the long run (or even cancellation).

Nope, not including tires. OEM wheels are expensive ~ $695 for the 2000 6-spoke.

Default we didnt file a claim

I just paid for it, it sucked man, i was driving late at night acrose a parking lot to met my friends, and all the suddon all i know is there is a curb like ten feet in front of me, i pull hard left but still bump up against it, didnt look like much damage, but my alignment was off, making weird noises finally took it in and it was 2 thousand for the repairs on the struts and wheels and crap, then 1000 for the repairs to the bumper, the bumper was barely scratched i was pissed.

Default hope not..

but another 2K sounds possible. The ironic thing is that 4-6K of body damage, and the car would look like it was put through a meat grinder. But to see the car it looks perfect.......

Default You were smart...

Several years ago I had a similar experience with a brand new 300ZX.

I should've coughed up the $2K myself back then. Instead I called my insurance company and was later cancelled because I had 2 speeding tickets on my record at the time. In the state of Maryland (where I lived at the time), the state law gave insurance companies the right to cancel policies for 2 or more incidents in a 3 year period. Even though I had been with State Farm for 10 years at the time, the dropped me like a hot potato. Had to get insurance through the state as I was suddenly "high risk" and paid 4K/year.

Lesson learned: Insurance is for things you CAN'T afford ONLY.

In my current predicament, 4K is just about what I can afford (sadly, because I've had a rough year financially...). 6K, no way.

I'll probably have to sell the car now and just drive my backup el-cheapo-mobile........
