TT quattro question for the gods
Now, after reading this, i'm assuming it's the ESP that kicked in and killed the gas...i know in my old old fwd passat, the traction control did this to the front wheels....
if this guy turned off esp, he would've/should've been able to get out? or am i wrong aout the haldex system?!
Last weekend in unplowed rural Vermont, I was able to spin all 4 wheels on the snow and drift around like a rally car with a feeling of complete control. Basically, with no ESP, it's all haldex and tire that's keeping you on the road.
And while we're on the subject, it's a little known fact that ABS actually increases stopping distance on snow by decreasing the total amount of friction. It also increases overall stopping distance on dry pavement in favor of increasing lateral stability, but many believe this is an acceptable tradeoff.
But yes, disabling ESP should have let him get out. ESP cuts the throttle when it detects four wheel slip (or so the rumor goes)
Turn off ESP, hit the gas, and you can really feel the power getting thrown around between the wheels.
and even thou Toronto weather was cooperating we had few snow falls. and i did get it to spin it was hard to do it thou. if you been on this forum long you must've notice there were few post about ESP & AWD, some guys say thay cant get to spin the wheels even when ESP is off, do they have a better car or is them selfs. i'm driving since i was 12 & dreven all kinds of cars & bikes. in 99.99% off all spins it is THE OPERATOR.if he would turn off ESP he might have get out, or in his case i think he would get in to the ditch. in my opinion if ONE does know how operate the MAchine do not tuch it. by the way i had a Full conversion Chevy VAN, REAR WHEEL drive, with no interior, i've paid $30for used all season tires, for 2 years of drving in Toronto, i have not got my wheels to spin or did i ever got stock.
And finaly He should be writing only about Summer driving.
