Default 18 or 19 RS4 rims in Metro Detroit? Can't decide $300 difference. Also, can I lower/spacer......

I love the way this car looks in CA. I was all set to buy the 18s until I saw the 19's on this car:

<a href="http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/images.jtmpl?car_id=146303747&dealer_id=&c ardist=5&&make=AUDI&address=92701& search_type=used&model=TT&max_price=25000& amp;min_price=24000&start_year=2000&end_

Default Forgot to ask- is there anything special I need to do to add 18s or 19s? I am a virgin to this stuff

Any recommendations on lowering springs or spacers?

Dude, I have trouble keeping 17's alive at times in this hellhole, 19's are going to be a money pit.

Default I have 2-friends who have 19" in Metro Detroit...

One of them went thru 5-wheels this past summer/winter... The other one said that his wheels are strong that they held-up... but this car is not daily driver...

Default 18's will be pushing it. Depends how much downtown driving you'll do and..

..how careful you are to avoid potholes...the bad pavement around SE mich. will still kill 18's if you're not very careful. Forget 19's unless you want to move to California like quattrings.

I have an ABT spring combo/bilstein sport struts with spacers from evolution sports that survives down there ok, but I'm glad that I live in northern mich. now. That combo lowers about an inch, and I think that anything more downstate is just tempting fate.

BTW, a few of us are hoping to meet up next weekend (not tomorrow) to work on some mods if you're interested in meeting up, let me know.

cheers and welcome,

Rich

Default 18" is preferable...

I have 18" RS4 wheels with OEM caps. I hit a pothole hidden in a sheet drain puddle in December 2003 in California and bent two of the rims. I ordered replacements from The Wheel Exchange, but I also put my 17" OEM wheels back on until last Saturday.

To run 19" on a TT you should use a 35 profile tire. The 40 profile tire on my 18" wheels rides noticeably stiffer than the 45 profile tire on the OEM 17" rims. Unless you want a buckboard ride and lots of expense replacing bent rims, to say nothing about having a wheel that is argueably out of proportion for the design of the car, I would recommend going with the 18" size. Not only is the cost a bit less, the proportions are better, and the size gives the same appearance as the ALMS wheel or the optional wheel on the 3.2TT.

Default nothing regular at this point, but I'm hoping for a get together next weekend.

Click on my user name (in blue) and shoot me an e-mail, I'll keep you up to date. I"m learning a lot as I go from many of the other more experienced people here. You really want to try and go to TT-East to meet up with a lot of people here and have some fun and learn at the same time. Lots of mods and discounts available there too.

Cheers,
