Default Protective clear film

I bought my car a week ago and it has protective clear film on the front bumper area. It looks like it was a good idea of the original owner of the car to do this since there are many scratches on the film.

What is the best way to peel off the film safely without hurting the painted surface underneith? I'm not sure if I want to put a new clean film on yet, but the old one has too many tiny scratches.

Default wax it a see it they dissapear or maybe have a trained specialist in this field

take a look at it to make sure everything that can be done to improve the look, is done.

I hear waxing the film like the finish is advisable. (end)

Default Fine hand polish first

Using a plastic polish kit (two stage) can work -similar stuff to acrylic polish kits. Peeling off is easy enough. The warmer the better, so park in the sun for a while or use a hair dryer and some soapy solution to wet it as you remove it.

this clear film cost between 300-400 just for the materials ... it does protect the front ..

I don't think you should take it off, unless want to spend another $700

Default Do not remove it. Get Mequiar's plastic polish

Meguiar's makes a plexiglass polish that was invented in WWII for plexiglass ball turrets and windscreens in aircraft in the Pacific. It is available at auto supply stores and boat supply stores. In this area it is extensively used by yacht owners for the clear plastic windows and shields on their yachts.

I have it at home and use it to polish acrylic tables. I expect it might work to take scratches out of your clear cover on your bumper.

If you do decide to have the clear protective cover removed, go to a professional shop where they install that stuff. Have it removed by someone who knows how to do it without f**king up the underlying paint finish. And be prepared that may not be possible and removal might mean you have to have the front bumper repainted after the protective film is removed...

I'm kinda surprised with the responses I'm getting.

I thought the whole point of the film was to protect the original paint job. If the removal process is not easy, or cost effective, I don't see why anyone would want to layer this film over the original paint.

If the film can be 1) easily replaced/removed, or 2) easily repaired, I see the point of this film.

It seems from the feed back here, it is not a cost effective replacable/removable thing. I will try plastic polish next, but waxing did not work. I'm sceptical about it's repairbility at this point....

Default I have 6,700 miles on car and I only have (1) small nick on the film

By contrast, my A4 had a lot of small nicks because it was unprotected, with same mileage.

I have taken the car up the state of Kalifornia and not one nick. It really works.

I was told taking the film off is not hard.

I have not considered the plastic polish. This is a good alternative....
