AM reception issues
WIth baseball season coming up soon, my AM reception issues are really starting to drive me nuts. I'm out of warranty, so I'm looking for advice and possible alternatives to going to the dealer.
Essentially, here's the issue: FM and CD work fine. AM is awful, but gets markedly better when I turn on the headlights. Funny thing is, if I turn the headlights off, the reception will stay ok for a while, then get bad again. The problem is its never pefect, and while I've adjusted my personal noise threshold to deal with noise levels, passengers can't handle it.

Have you had any aftermarket radio work done? Audis have powered antennas. If they're not hooked up properly, the AM reception will be very weak.
I had the same problem after I had an aftermarket head unit installed in my A4. The stupid installer used the wrong antenna adapter which wasn't powered. My FM came through just fine, but AM was terrible. I fixed it by buying a powered antenna adapter for VW/Audi and my AM comes in just fine.

early quattros had interference from the Haldex control unit which caused the infamous morse code..
sound and decreased reception. I don't know if the conrol unit is a module or board of some type but replacing mine solved the problem- my am is as good as fm.
