MAF Screens: which ones to take out? Did a search, read the article; 2001 180, w/BMC CDA.

Can the metal screen stay in place if the plastic in front (airbox side) is removed? Could both plastic screens (only) be pulled?

Remove them all or just run with the screen if you choose. Best performance/flow will be running bare, but you must exercise some caution...Nothing between the air filter and the Turbo...
Take you BMC apart also and cut out the swirl tabs in the support structure. Leave enough tab to keep the filter centered. The swirl effect is disruptive and not necessary.

Thanks, Schwing; I see the BMC comes w/a 2.5" hose,

but a sleeve pulls out and it looks like I can fit a 3 or 3.25" to it w/out too much trouble...

Yup, but hard to route...>

A big hose...That's why my TTDA has dual 2.5's for a little more flexibility.....

Yeah, this place is littered with folks that have seen the light!

I don't doubt I'll be one someday...Just fwiw, there's a couple of real quality issues with the BMC - like the foam 'sealing ring', that should be a real o-ring so it doesn't spew foam parts from the first fit, back into the maf...
