Default More MAF questions...

Does the VW Golf unit just have screens, or does it also have plastic flow straighteners (or, with some other combination than we have)? What (other) advantages does it have?

Default as far as I understand it, it's just cheaper, and works (just have to put it in our housing.)

Not sure what screens, etc. it has. Aren't those part of the housing that's in the TT MAF?

Default Ok; I thought maybe it was a different design, (no flow straighteners, just screens) and I could

swap it out for the stock w/my CDA or (or a TTDA) - that way I'd keep the stock unit intact if for any reason i wanted to go back to the factory airbox...

Default Remove the element from the VW piece...>>

And put in your existing MAF housing. They are a different diameter. The only important part is the element seen on the right.. (This for 225's, 180's can swap the whole thing.) All have the screens in them.

Default Steve, I've been giving it some thought, and

it seems that only taking one of the flow straighteners (f/s) out doesn't really get you there (which I'd hoped it would) - any testing or comments - it seems each f/s limits the airflow area by about 50%, and if I still have one, will it make a difference?

Default If you've read...>

The Autospeed article (and I think you said you did) then you know that the biggest intake restriction is in the MAF. I've run with them in, with just the screen, and with them out. Out is definitely better...

Eliminating Negative Boost

Default You really can't change the element size....>>

It's a restriction you just can't get around. Cleaning up the screens/Vanes is all you can do easily to improve flow. "MAF" generally refers to the whole assembly. I'm working on a slightly bigger tube that will bolt in and should flow 11% more air. Untested though at this time...
