Off the Phone cradle access hole.. Real flexible, adjustable and finger tip control while driving. 30 second removal too. Mount parts here:

http://www.gpscity.com</a

Default yeah, it can fit inside your ashtray...

You take out the insert and the V shaped spring clip in the back, and the ashtray can still close to keep it hidden, dropping down to light up the iPod face at night with the stock red light that illuminates that area.

Works best if you can run a wire out the back of the ashtray and into an input, either from an aftermarket head unit like my Alpine, or maybe a Jeff Bipes setup.

Lots of other installs around here, though, search on "ipod".

Cheers,

Rich

It sticks on so you don't have to worry about drilling any holes, and it'll hold pretty much anything. I use it with my Monster iPlay so I can promise that it fits with the cord.

Clicky

Default Do you have your iPod working with your Alpine HU?

Which Alpine unit do you have and how do you have your ipod interfaced to it?

I'll be putting in an Alpine IVA D900 soon.

Default Yeah, has worked out, great; even better with upcoming Alpine-iPod interface

Mine is the older 7995, which is great because it's silver, and plays MP3 discs, and XM. You just need the optional AiNet (I think that's what it's called) adapter that plugs in where the Alpine changer would have gone and gives you a nice Aux Input instead. If you call Alpine customer service they can direct you the right way. Costs about $20-25.

That way you have a solid hardwired connection to your iPod via a "Y" (mini stereo to RCA jack) cable, out the back of the head unit and into the iPod in the ashtray below. It's a tight fit, so you want a pretty low profile cable (i.e., not like the 2 beefy cables I tried before going with a thinner, cheaper cable). Works like a charm though, probably even easier with a new iPod mini, which even comes in a nice brushed aluminum...can't wait to see one of those in a TT..

Take a search through the Alpine site to get some prelim info on their new integrated deal, not sure how that's going to work out yet, or for which models it'll be compatible, but the idea is that you can store your iPod in the car somewhere out of the way, and the display info from the iPod will display out on the Alpine's screen. Pretty cool!

Default Re: yeah, it can fit inside your ashtray...

Rich...can you provide more details...Can it literally sit inside the ashtray mount...ANy pictures? This would be an ideal solution.

Thanks,
Jay
