trouble getting to the intake hose clamp
If you're a novice like me, sorry, but this is a total PITA. Follow the advice above. You do this last clamp by feel, with the right socket, as stated from above. Loosen everything that's connected to it first, if you haven't already. I'd advise in addition putting some kind of pad down on the front ledge of the engine bay for your knees, and a pad for your forehead on the rubber strip by the wipers. At least when re-doing the clamps on the new hose (which for me was a whole separate session on a different day) you can put the hose clamps in an orientation that makes it easier to tighten. Also, for the rope trick, remember to pull from the drivers wheel well *toward the back of the car* that seems to work better for some reason. I agree that loosening it with a screwdriver head is a good idea, that's what I did too.
Arrange for a massage or something better when you're done.............
