$450 for a 30K 40K maintainance/service, good?
i have a '00 Quattro
i didn't do the 30K therefore thinking to have both done together.
My dealer is asking for $450 and saying it will take @4 hours to get done.
$450 reasonable price? What's costing so much? Any suggestions?

Take a look at your manual
It should outline what is done at each of the scehduled services. I'm guessing that most of the items done at the 30K is also done at the 40K. The only thing I can think of that is done on the 40K and not the 30k is the Haldex oil and filter change.
$450 sound too high, and maybe they quoted you that because yo uasked to do both the 30K and 40K.

the biggies are probably brakes and haldex
they should bleed your brake fluid and change the haldex oil. both these take an hour or so. other than that, pretty standard stuff, air and pollen filters, test drive, etc.
450 seems like a reasonable estimate. ask them for an explanation of everything they do. if they feel it's worth 450, they should have no problem outlining the service.
