okay, if anyone has any ideas, i'd love to hear 'em.
it'll run beautifully for about an hour and a half or so, and then, all of a sudden, it'll go into soft limp mode. generally, i'll pull a 'too lean' code off of the computer, but it's obvious by the black build-up on my tail pipes and my hateful fuel economy that it's running way too rich.

a smoke test revealed a leak to the left of my intake manifold that has since been fixed (thank you, juliem!! no, it ain't pretty, but it works!). the oxygen sensor has been replaced. the MAF has been replaced. the plugs have just been replaced. the oil has just been changed. a new timing belt and water pump were just installed. the battery was also replaced.
i'm going to the audi dealership here in montgomery, alabama in a few minutes. i'll be picking up a new temp sensor and a new oil cap (yes, i'm grabbing desperately at anything that MAY be the problem).
on a side note, my A/F gauge still isn't working properly.
the car runs really well when it's cool, and even when it's warm, but after it's been on the road for a while, it craps out. if i stop for a while, and then drive again, it's fine once more -- until it's hot again.
if anyone has any ideas, i'd love to hear 'em. TIA!!
So, the first question out of my friend's mouth - what chip is the car and if it goes back to stock, is the symptom reproduceable?
