Default TT gurus, I have a question for you.

I am located in Colorado, and picked my TT up late April. Since then the weather has been probably on average in the 70's. But the thing with CO is we have streaks of hot weather like in the high 90's for a week or so. Then we have random days like today which are in the high to mid 40's. When I started my car today I could hear the turbo warming up like it always does (even in hot weather,) but it was making very strange noises...I suppose comparable to the sound of a mule dying. Put it this way, it didn't sound healthy. Should I be concerned about this? Take it to the shop? Or do you suppose the weather could be having an affect on it? It did, by the way, quit about a minute and a half later. Car was running otherwise normal. TIA - Adam

Default That it quit, is reason enough to take it in hopefully to catch a status code or something.

Between the east-west owners here, we've got most temp ranges covered here.

Default What do you mean you can hear it warm up??

The turbo should sound no different in cold or warm weather (at least not noticeably). In fact, if you can hear the turbo at all when the engine is idling, it's most definitely in need of replacement.

Are you sure that you aren't hearing the cold start pump, or climate control fan? Both are known to make funny noises sometimes. The cold start pump will stop after a few minutes, like you described. After starting the car, when the engine RPMs drop from 1200 down to 850(normal idle), the cold start pump has shut off. Is this what you are refering to?
