How do I remove the center caps from my 17" 5 spokes?

I jack from here. The rubber donuts are OK but mine are collapsing.

with the wheel off tap out the center cap from the back of the wheel but DON'T tap it by the center-
tap it around the circumference where the steel spring part is. The alluminum center is attached to a steel clip which is a round plate with a hole in the center and 3 or 4 (don't feel like running down to garage to look at my broken one) spring clips bent off of it that attach inside the wheel. If you tap the center where the hole is and not on the steel plate you can knock the cap off the backing plate and then your're paying over $30 for a new one. Once you see it you'll know what I'm talking about.
