I just hate it when a tool falls in the engine bay and finds its way to the belly pan cover!

Default Yes, running fine. Drove nearly 800 miles round trip to Monterey and back...

with no mechanical problems. Hadn't had a chance to give it a good looking over since returning. Just changed the oil. She isn't broken in yet, uses up oil. The valve cover vent hole doesn't have a baffle so it's easy to get oil in the intake system when the crankcase pressure is higher than normal. It was a bad idea to run synthetic oil from the beginning.

Need to tweak some of the settings still to prevent overboost and one other dtc.

Default Your comments on the synthetic are interesting....

I've never heard anyone credentialed buy into that much... interesting.

Do you plan on running an oil analysis eventually?

Default Nah, it's obvious what's going...

I'm getting too much blow by. Oil is dirty with combustion particulates and excessive pressure in the crankcase causes oil to get blown into the intake system from the valve cover vent hole (hence using it up... exhaust tips are black). I'm afraid of poisoning and killing my cats before the rings seal properly. Unfortunately I never got a chance to really lean on the engine when I first got her running. It's the best time to brake in the rings when the cylinder hone is still rough and hasn't smoothed out. Also the ring manufacturer does not recommend running synthetic for the first 3k miles. I put it in synthetic after 500 miles.

Default Very interesting....

You aren't running stock cats still are you? What about a temporary test pipe?

I had always been told that those synthetic issues were an old wives tale, and it was more about the weight than that.

Also.. I thought that rings should seal relatively quickly.. like less than 1000 miles..

I've had race cats for ages. lower oil weight refers to lower viscosity across operating temp range if I'm not mistaken, so oil can creep into very small gaps (for tight tolerance parts).

Brake in period will depends on the material the rings are made of and friction coefficient on cyl. walls and cylinder pressure during combustion.

just honed. Wish I had bumped bore so disp. was 1.9. Would have been very easy and cheap to do. Pistons & rings would have cost the same. Leaving it alone was the least pain and easy way out.
