Before I poke around aimlessly, anyone have any ideas: My

car has developed a rattle/scraping noise for about 2 seconds whenever I let off the gas. It is not clutch or trans related as it does it before I engage the clutch. It does not appear boost related as it will do it even at low revs but the car must be under load - will not do it if I rev it in neutral. Sounds like its somewhere under the left front of car. Heat shield of some sort maybe? Any ideas? Thanks.

Maybe a exhaust hanger needs tightening? The exhaust does move some....

I'm thinking it is boost related aka the diverter valve.

Yeah, That was my 1st though too (hope it's not a stupid question)

but wouldn't the DV only come in at higher revs? This occurs even below 3k, but must be driving.

location you described doesn't sound like DV, but a fialing stock DV can make a rattling sound, I think on deceleration, if I recall the TSB correctly, and it definitely can happen under 3K rpm. Mine was making a honking sound under part throttle accelration, under 3K rpm.
