Uh oh, DSG sound problem\question?
1. If revving the engine in neutral, the sound is not heard.
2. While maintaining a constant rpm, high or low, the sound is not heard.
3. When accelerating hard, the frequency of the sound follows the rpm of the engine. So as the car accelerates in 1st gear & upshifts to 2nd, I hear the sound speed up, pause briefly when the gear is changed to 2nd, the sound slower than it was in 1st, and then speed up again as the car continues to accelerate. This happens when accelerating in all gears.
4. 1300 miles on the car.
5. The radio & climate control is turned off when I do this.
I'm thinking this is coming from the DSG transmission. Is this normal? Anyone else with DSG hear this? Ideas? Thanks!
I'm guessing everyone else is just getting a normal "voom!" of the engine and none of this extra "busy noise"? Hmmm....
To cover the bases, have the dealer check the fluid in the DSG. Low fluid levels have been the culprit in weird noises in several instances according to the tech at my dealer (I had an issue with hearing a wierd chirping noise during 1-2 and 2-1 shifts).
When you say the "frequency" changes, do you mean the occurences/sec or the sound frequency?
Well I called and scheduled with the service department for next week; I'll mention your DSG fluid suggestion (for the wet clutch?). Sure to have some interesting stories...
Car was in the shop for almost three weeks waiting for parts.
That was about 5000 miles ago.
The car has been trouble-free since then and runs great.
