Default Taking off Calipers

Ok, I give up...How do I get the calipers off? I've tried the search engine.

Thanks,
Ed

Default Thanks...But when I did what Jeff said, the...

pads just fell out.

1. Is this normal?
2. Do I need new brake shoes?

Thanks,

Default Yeah...the instruction on this kit said to remove them (execpt for brake line)...but

I am a mechanical zero...oh well someone's got to graduate at the bottom. Anything that I do or have done is the first for me...

Default on the front or back?

On the front the inside pad has a clip that goes inside of the piston, that's generally pretty easy to get lined up. The outer side there are tabs on the pads that engage the caliper, make sure those are lined up (I'm going from memory here, I think there are tabs).
On the back there are definitely tabs on the pads that have to slide into slots on the calipers. Plus, you need to make sure the spring clip on the back of the pads is sitting correctly against the inside of the caliper, make sure it is compressed and sitting level and not shifted to one side or the other or else the pads can come loose. Getting the rear pads in is a PITA, you just need to fight with it until it all sits in properly. You may need to flex the spring clip out a little bit to help persuade it to seat correctly.

Default Ok, just checked the pic, looks like pads for the rear caliper.

make sure you get everything correctly lined up when you put the pads in and they should stay in once the caliper is back in place around the rotor. It looks like there's still enough pad material left.

you don't have to remove them to paint... just tape them off.
