Default VAG Com question

So i am thinking about getting the VAG -com now i have seen a lotta those VAG com cables on ebay (USB to OBDII) so anyone have any experience with those (instead of the Ross tech ones)

caz it seems like you can get the software for $99 from Ross-tech and get a cable on ebay for about $50 (total of $150) which saves about $100 from getting the package deal from Ross-tech (the software and the cable for $249)

suggestions? comment? experience?

TIA

Default You might want to take a look at Ross-Tech's site FAQ. I seem to remember something about the

generic cables not being right. But it's best to double check with Andy or Uwe just in case.

Default One thing you're paying for is an unlimited license....>

New Hex cables have a dongle built in and can be used, fully featured, on any machine with the latest program. Cheap cables and $99 license will limit you to an older program and only one computer that has the security unlock code provided...

Default I use ShadeTree software's ProDiag on my palm. It rocks.

and sooo portable. Full featured, so no complaints there... Of course I have an older version of ross tech with a generic cable on my laptop too, but i find i never use it anymore. Partly because it runs on my Dell laptop, which I rarely use. the prodiag kit isn't cheap, but it isn't any more $$ than the full ross tech kit.

Second this: ProDiag is not cheap, but works great and is very portable (2 thumbs up)

So far, the free shareware software has been enough for me.

Default i am only planning to use it on one machine (i only have one laptop)>>>>

but dun you still get the lastest software and software upgrade as long as you pay for the $99 software????

i thought all you are missing out is the 'hardware' support if you dun get the hardware with it
