Soft top mechanism

The soft top hydraulic pump in my 2001 225hpQ roadster is noisy. Roof opens but does not close anymore. Dealership says pump was damaged due to low oil level. Low oil level due to a leak. Roof needs to come off to find and fix leak and to top up oil. Cost would be $1550, based on full day labor. Any bright ideas or suggestions are welcome.thanks

how can they quote you a price without even knowing what's wrong?

"find and fix leak" ???

That's $193 an hour for a days labor....>

Surely you can do better than that..

(Put fluid in, look for leak, replace leaky part. That's a no brainer.)

There's a pump on ebay if it turns out your pump is bad. No idea if it is anygood either though.

Ignore it and just use manual labor until you dump the car?

Thanks, I first need to strip and check. maybe the pump hs some more years life in it once there is oil in the system.

Well, they also believe the pump is behind the passenger seat. but when I looked there, all I could see was some sort of electronic box and not much else.
