Went out and drove a Boxster today.....>>

Always looking, and this one was about 5 minutes away, priced somewhat reasonably, so I figured why not...No telling what may replace my current Miata in the future....

Owned by a Gynecology resident, 3rd owner, all records, 47K.......

Impressions? A bit of a yawn actually. Early Boxters were not high HP cars (207?). At 47K the shocks were marginal and it needed pads and rotors all around. Radio (ugraded factory package) sucked. Handling so-so due to the age on the suspension. High clutch and throttle effort compared to the TT. Shifter throw felt like it was about 1.5 feet, and not super precise.....More like the earlier 911's. Acceleration was fine and general engine feel was great...Typical Porsche mechanical 6 cylinder sound (which is nice).. I did like the power/memory seat package. Car could probably be bought for under 17K....Wasn't tempted or impressed enough to even make an offer.....

ick.... naxty color. for what it's worth, I wasn't thrilled w/the Miata the 1st time I drove one

But it grew on me pretty fast. I'm just now getting comfortable enough with it to point the nose using just the throttle.... though learning to do so has almost got me into trouble with curbs and trees and such more than once. ;-)

I drove a 987 [S version] earlier this year

It was much better quality / power / handling compared to the 986.
Love the sound of the flat six behind the seat!

Steve, I did the same recently, thinking my next set of wheels might be a Boxster...

Drove a '99 (27K miles) and an '03 Boxster S (10K miles). I agree that the '99 was totally underwhelming, and the "butt dyno" didn't seem much better than even my 180 (must be the TTDA)... Even if it was, it didn't feel it.

The interior can't even compare (at least the 99). That said, the S felt much better, and I'll seriously consider an 03 (rear glass window) or newer S. I suppose a newer TT (225 or 3.2) is always in the running, too!

There may be naturally quicker, faster and better handling rides, but even the most modest TT makes you feel special (and every onlooker smile)!
