Default Temp Gauge Readout

Here's my question....since there is a fair amount of discussion about water pumps, thermostats, clusters etc. I wonder about this - if I idle my 02 225 for more than a few minutes, the temp gauge will move from dead center upward a full increment toward hot then cycle back down to the center positon. Stays at center while driving and has not overheated. Is this normal? Should I have it looked at by the dealer (still under warranty). Please advise - only had this car seven months. My last TT never did this.

Default Perfectly normal.......>>

With no cooling air flowing through the radiator, the temp rises until the set point of the fan temp switch is reached, The fan activates and cools the car back down. It will continue this cycle if you stay stopped and idling..

Default Not necessarily normal. Mine did that, and the cluster was replace... never does it anymore even in

hot temps.

Default In cooler weather, mine idles at 12 o'clock and cruises at 11.

You might try turning on the A/C to see if that holds the needle more steady. If so, then your "problem" is a fan switch of some sort.

A-HA! That fan cycling activity explains why I did not have this happening in the summer months...yet I did notice it in these cold days without the ac turned on. I first noticed this while letting the car idle on a cold Sunday morning while ogling new Audis on the dealer's lot. Thanks for the info. Click and Clack have nothing on us as far as diagnostics is concerned!
