TT (Mk1) Discussion Discussion forum for the Mk1 Audi TT Coupe & Roadster produced from 2000-2006

I wish Audi had taken the same approach with the evolution of the TT. (sigh)

Default It will be interesting to see if this approach works for Mini...

since Porsche volumes are 10 times less than Mini per year.

Porsche exclusivity I believe allows for this design approach for the 911. This approach could work for the TT with its sales volume. But until the next gen TT is introduced, we will need to wait and see if Audi took this approach or not.

For Mini, time will only tell if this approach works to maintain/expand its sales volume.

Default The same with the VW New Beetle...

I wonder if VW will mess with the New Beetle design anytime soon. The original look lasted for 50-something years.

Audi's cheapening the look of the TT with the redesign. If new designs hold up I would expect to see a retro TT in about 30 years that looks just like ours do now.
I just don't have any faith in the future of the TT. I'm seriously waiting for a "bangled" TT at this point given how Audi loves to follow BMW's lead.

I've already decided I'm out without even having seen the new model. The new Lexus IS looks like the most probable replacement closely followed by the Infiniti G35.

You mean, halt production, go out of business (twice), change the entire car, then triple the price?

Default While the TT has a wonderful design...

I'm not sure it qualifies as an icon...not the way the 911, Mini & Beetle do. If they don't change the design, sales will slow to a point where it's not worth it to produce. I'd rather Audi have a sporty-ish coupe & roadster that wasn't TT-like than none at all.

Default making refinements along the way, yes. and in the long-term...will become an icon.

but i believe that it is an icon design of sorts...you simply cannot place it in the same category as most cars. its distinctive and was paving new ground...not like wannabes, like the eclipse.
