trade in the 180 fwd for 225 quattro?

i suppose there's a self-evident answer to that.

Default imo, keep the 180FWD roadster and ..>>

get a 225QC for winter
the trunk space in the QR is smaller and the coupe is a really great and 'practical' winter car

some really good deals on used ones out there, check out autotrader.com and ebay. LOTS of choices

PS>> remember to get winter tires!

Default Get a cheap (maybe even fun) winter beater, keep the Roadster and let it>>

hibernate - though it can't be THAT bad in Richmond VA, Geoff!!! Just need to decide how much you want to spend on that "beater" - though another plus to that is that you have a practical car for use year round when the need arises! If you just trade your car in on a Q Roadster (something I defientely considered quite a few times) you have a car that's better suited to the fould weather it's true, but it's still a TT Roadster which has limited practicality, and then you'd have a smaller trunk, too. Not to mention the more complex ($$) systems on board. My 89 GTI 16V (cost me $2600) is a lot of fun, and very practical year round. Street parking never a concern, sips gas, and is a decent foul weather performance. External visibility and tire size/compound are the biggest advantages it has over the TT in that regard. It isn't all gravy, though, because I've had to sink in plenty of money to keep it running recently - the VW 16V motor will run well forever, but the ancillary systems do not! Still you could probably find something more reliable and practical than that for a somewhat higher initial investment.

Keep the bird in hand, man - you never know what the other TT will be like for you once you drive it away - not to mention you like what you've got now!

Default ha ha, John... no place to hibernate, and it's really just an excuse.

i've had all manner of cars and plowed through plenty of ice and snow over the years... and the weighty little TT fwd is probably one of the better handlers (i've had) with good tires!

since next year is "buy my first home year," i think the little 180 will do just fine. as soon as i purchase a humble homestead, i'll host a mid-atlantic mini-TT east!

good ideas about just having a total snow drift beater, though!
