Default Clutch

I'm new to this forum and drive a '01 225 HP TT Coupe with 35,000 miles. Has anybody had any issues with their clutch? I've already had one replaced and they are telling me I need a new one. It is my understanding they will only replace it once under warranty. It is 100% stock and I don't drive it very hard. I previously had a '97 A4 manual that I drove for 70,000 miles with the same clutch.

It grinds when shifting into 3rd with the clutch all the way to the floor. I had the transmission guru at the dealer drive it. He couldn't duplicate the grinding but confirmed that the clutch was slipping. I did a search and saw many modified TTs have over 100K miles with the original clutch, go figure.

That sounds like transmission synchros, not clutch.

If clutch is slipping and you are not abusing it, then maybe the replacement was improperly installed...

How would you verify the clutch slave release issues?

Default 01 225 6 spd w/ 42k slipping clutch too ...

I modified the car with GIAC chip, exhaust, DV and intake and now my clutch is slipping like crazy. No grinding except when I'm lazy on the clutch going into 2nd to fast but that only happens once a month or so.

Is there some adjustment that might fix this type of problem?

Default Good observation. But the clutch slave is inside the transmission...

so it would be a totally separate item from the clutch itself, except for contributing to premature wear by somehow allowing the clutch to slip because the slave cylinder was not fully engaging or disengaging the clutch? Is that even possible? The grinding noise represented in the post, led me to believe synchro/transmission problem. But perhaps the clutch slave is a contributor...

Default doesn't sound like it's slipping. do this:

rolling at 15MPH, shift to 5th gear and release the clutch. depress throttle to floor. if engine lugs, clutch is not slipping. if engine revs without a corrseponding increase in vehicle speed, clutch is slipping.

i'd be more inclined to believe you have air trapped in the lines, or the master or slave are kaput. bad news is that the tranmission must be removed to do the slave. worse yet, you could have a syncro issue, as mentioned.
