Turbo(?) whine when decelerating past 1,000 rpm

Default Turbo(?) whine when decelerating past 1,000 rpm

I just noticed a new sound coming from the engine compartment. Everything sounds normal as I accelerate, shift through gears, etc. But, at low speed in a parking lot, etc., there is an increased whining sound (turbo?) as the rpms descend past 1,000. The whining seems sustained at between 800 to 1,000 rpm. Otherwise, the engine noise is the same throughout the rpm range. I have a 2002 225 coupe with a stock DV (less than 6 months old), a K&N air filter (several months old), 33,000 miles and no mods. The oil level was almost a quart low, but is now full. Any ideas?? I did a search on the forum, but couldn't find a similar situation. Any help would be appreciated.

Default if you drive like me, the only time you hit that rpm is while parking.

so my question is, is the wheel pointed straight while you hear the whine?
If not, then you are probably running low on steering fluid. check the level.

Default Shouldn't be any turbo whine at that RPM.......>

Does the sound change when you turn the wheel? Low power steering fluid will set up a whine, that you may not hear at higher speeds..

Or is it Engine speed dependent?

Default I like it alot. i agree, it is the most "drivable" of the bunch.

considering opening the wallet for a 2.2 engine + BT - throwing money down a drain? or go for it?

Project will probably start next fall.

how is the old gal holding up?

still running well...going thru some minor tuning issues with hi-flow cat....but i am close to the final solution.

2.2 huh? and a big turbo? ooofaaa....that would be a monster solution....as for throwing money down the drain..well..i have heard weirder stuff... for that kinda money, i am thinking you are into the car for the long haul...

Default No problem...The fill is....>

under the passenger side cover....Green cap (dipstick inside). Use Audi or VW fluid available at the dealer...
