Can I put staggered rims/tires on Quattro?
- front 18 x 8.0, 225/40/18
- rear 18 x 9.5, 265/35/18
Since I have AWD, I am fully aware that the front and rear tire circumference have to be identical. But it has been too long since a professor made me apply the formulas and I am looking for some help from forum members.
Does this setup make any sense at all? Tips, hints, etc. are greatly appreciated.
most manufacturers are represented on this Tire Rack chart:
*pick and click your tire
*click on "specs"
*select your proposed size(s)
*go accross the chart to find "diameter"
for example: Bridgestone Potenza SO-3's
225/40-18 diameter = 25.0 inches
235/40-18__________25.4
255/35-18__________25.0
265/35-18__________25.4
So:
225/40-18 works best with 255/35-18
235/40-18 works best with 265/35-18<ul><li><a href="http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AR4&url=%2Ftires%2Fsurveyresults%2Fsur veydisplay.jsp%3Ftype%3DMP">Tire Rack tech page:</a></li></ul>

He said anything else will throw off the speedo, which will throw off everything from the timing to the fuel injection, to yada yada yada, on and on.
Was I told incorrectly?
