timing belt replacement
I was just stopped in to a tire shop to get a leak fixed on a tire when the mechanic noticed the mileage (68000) on my tt and said it may be a good idea to get the timing belt replaced. Any advice on this?

Do it..(yourself if you can) I did mine Saturday morning, cost me parts and 4.5 hours in the garage.
Not the best time of year to be doing this in Minnesota, but it needed to be done. In 2 weeks, I get to do the timing belt on my GF's '02 A4.

Well, the independent shop stands to make a bunch of money off this recommendation, however....
The dealership stands to get a whipping from AoA if they start telling people that the recommended timing belt interval is way off. It stands to reason that if it's a "known issue" with a number of dealerships, then it should be well known to AoA. And they can't have someone throwing that in their face.
