Default Let's talk the taboo of hitches... anyone have one on their TT and what size? 1.25 or 2"?

Looking to potentially mod up a hidden hitch set-up for the TT for a fork mount hitch bike rack for my roadster. Was thinking of hiding it behind the rear valence requiring removal of said piece in order to use the hitch but was curious as to space and fitment issues with the exhaust, etc.... anyone try this already and fail or succeed? Don't want to waste my time or my brother-in-laws either as he'd be the real welding/fabricating genius on this one...

Default not sure how strong the body panel is behind that valence>>>

seeing as the car is unibody, could not even foresee how you would weld something in there mike...

Default Dalan makes a hitch that bolts in - but it's $300. Figured we could weld up a similar unit

for much less and either weld it to the same mounting points or bolt it in as well but to the drop I want - not Dalan's specs which might or might not allow me to use the valence like I want for hiding purposes....

Default wow...not liking that>>>

regardless you have to run straps to the back of the trunk...tongue weight is only 200 lbs, so if you lean on it while it is on the car, you could bend it in theory...

Also, with it sticking out beyond the body of the car, it would not take much for another car to push it into the rear bumper.

They do not make a rack that can fit over the roof line like Porsche? Just curious...

Default over the roofline? not that I have seen.... the bird automotive rack is a solution but similar in

style to this concept but for me the bike sits up too high on that rack and I really want a fork mount solution......

Default I've had hitches on a number of my cars. I especially liked having it on the lowered cars....

...because it helps protect the rear bumper from entrance/exit ramps to parking lots, not to mention those concrete "logs" they put in front of parking spots. That being said, I HATE the fact that you can see the crossmember below the rear bumper on the TT hitch. That ruins it for me. I don't mind just seeing the mounting head, and if it gets scraped up, I'll just pull it off and re-spray it black. Sure beats re-painting (or fixing cracks in) my rear bumper.

It was also useful for pulling my PWC.

Default that's why I'm trying to keep it hidden behind the valance so it would be up a bit in height

for the stealth look.... simply trying to carry a 30 lb mtn bike with a rack I like and feel comfortable about carrying my big buck steed to thr trails or cross-country to TT West....
