Joe is looking into MTB rentals. Might have to plan a mtn bike ride for Sunday.
There are others interested as well since Durango is a mtn biking mecca. 
And I could bring or ship my bike, but for just one day, I'll rent and simply bring my saddle, pedals, shoes, helmet and other gear.

depends on the rentals available I guess whether I'd go that route or bring my beast
I'd like to bring my own bike as I know it's dialed in the way I like suspension-wise and I know what limits I can and should push when on it.

Yep. But I've travelled enough with my bikes to know when to make it easier on myself. ;)
There are quite a few higher end bike shops in Durango, so the odds for a decent rental are good if we act early. And you just might catch Bob Roll, Greg Herbold or Ned Overend in one of the bike shops, I met Ned last time I was there.

I've met Herbold up at Pedros Fest when the Rock Shox guys were re-valving my shock (for free)
also bumped into Richey Schley and the Rocky Mtn Bikes Vancouver crew going BIG off wooden kickers over cars in the lot one night.... that was entertaining as there was NOT a lot of run out between the trailers and camper vans! One oopsy and it was gonna hurt!
